Various industries nationwide aim to ensure the safety of the work environments and their employees by conducting drug testing because workplace substance abuse is related to increased accidents, poor mental and physical health, reduced productivity, and an increase in national healthcare costs.

Over 70% of illegal drug users are employed, yet most small to medium-sized companies do not possess the means for a drug testing program. At Quantum Diagnostics, we can help you conduct such tests for a reasonable price and help you establish further steps in prevention.

Due to the characteristics of working conditions, we recommend drug testing for the construction, transportation, manufacturing, and hospitality industries.

Quantum Diagnostics can help companies establish a drug testing program, provide information about the various drugs to be tested, and abstinence monitoring.

Widely Accepted Testing Method

Urine drug tests are the only testing method approved for federally-mandated tests for recent drug use. Businesses prefer and rely on laboratory-based urine testing for its capacity to screen for a wide variety of drug substances and its cost-effectiveness.

The goal of drug testing is to filter drug users from the workplace and to discourage the use of drugs while on the job. The most common screening method to detect recent drug use is urine testing, typically in the last one to three days. From pre-employment to random to post-accident, it’s suitable for all testing purposes and can detect a broad range of illicit and prescription drugs.

Keep in mind that a positive test doesn’t mean that the individual was “under the influence” at the time of the test. It is the standard of evidence of “current use” for the U.S. Department of Labor and is also the only method allowed for federally mandated drug tests.

Demonstrated ROI

Drug abuse in the workplace puts employers at risk for more on the job accidents, higher insurance costs, lower productivity, and increased absenteeism. Urine testing, like all drug testing methodologies, helps to mitigate these risks by screening out applicants and employees who use drugs.

Feature Non-invasive

As opposed to drawing blood specimen, which usually requires a patient’s consent, the collection of a urine specimen is needle-free and easy.

Features Stability

Drugs and drug metabolites that are found in urine are typically in a stable condition, meaning that there is a high chance of distinguishing them. Urine specimens usually contain detectable levels of drug use at a high concentration and over an extended period of time.

Features Detectability

Drugs of abuse in urine (DAU) testing often have a three-day window of opportunity to accurately detect drug abuse. However, for drugs which dissolve in lipids, fats, or oils, evidence can remain in urine for a longer period. Psychoactive drugs can last up to 21 days, while traces of cannabinoids remain in urine for up to 60 days.

Features Readily
Readily Preserved

Urine specimens can be quickly and easily preserved by either refrigeration or freezing whenever they need to be transported.

Although urine testing is the most common drug testing method, it’s not foolproof. That’s why we suggest specimen validity testing. By measuring pH, creatinine and specific gravity and testing for adulterants and may be added to the urine; we can ensure the integrity of the test. Quantum Diagnostics is one of the few laboratories to offer oxidant identification for some of the most common oxidizing adulterants.
